Why do you have a career in the sports industry?
Sports is an inextricable part of my life. By age 6, my father introduced me to most sports and by 12, I was playing Tennis on the national circuit. These childhood experiences exposed me to the problems faced by the Indian sports industry. Later as a student of business I realized that the genesis of India’s sporting woes stem from bad management. To change India’s sporting fortunes it is critical to transform how sports is managed in India. That is why I decided to get involved in the business of sports.
What is the best part of working in sports?
You are working on a product you are deeply passionate about and also all those free passes don’t hurt 😛
Advice for people trying to break into the sports industry?
Loving sports or even being good at sports does not necessarily mean that you will do well in the sports industry. The business of sports is very different from sports. While passion is critical to succeed it is important that you focus on building some capabilities say sponsorship sales, sports branding or sports law.
